HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE FACULTY OF SCIENCE

Osun State Polytechnic, Iree was created on 12th October, 1992. It was one of the satellite Campus of the Polytechnic, Ibadan before it became an autonomous institution. Faculty of Science was one of the structures inherited from the Polytechnic, Ibadan before its development to meet the present status. At the inception, the Faculty consists of three departments namely: Science Laboratory Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics. Later Food Science and Technology as well as Applied Sciences Department were established. As part of expansion and reorganization of programmes in the Institution to meet the current global need, the department of Computer Science was transferred to a newly created Faculty of information and Communication Technology in 2007. It is however pertinent to state that Faculty of Science is one of the two oldest Faculties in the Institution alongside with Faculty of Management Studies and its importance in the Polytechnic system is undoubtfully enormous. It is robust intellectually, socially and politically. It is also worthy to note that its sterling qualities in all ramifications have persistently been stable and its intimidating achievements over the years remain commendable.

GENERAL ADMINISTRATION


The Dean is the head of Faculty and his/her duties include coordinating the Administrative and Academic activities of the Faculty and he / she is responsible to the Rector. The Dean is also the Chairman of Faculty Academic Board. The composition of the Board is made up of the Dean, all Chief Lecturers, Serving Heads of Department in the Faculty and Faculty Officer. The First Dean of Faculty was Alhaji H.A. Ayodele (1993-1994), followed in succession Mr. C.O.A Afolabi (1994-1995), Dr. A.A. Adeyeye (1996-2000), Mr. O.A. Akintobi (2001-2004), Mr. I.O. Famojuro (2005), Mr. S.A. Oshungade (2006-2010), Alhaji W.A. Oyeleke (2010-2016), Dr. A.K. Olawale (2016- 2017) and Dr. R.O. Adeleke as the present Dean from February, 2017 to date. The Faculty Officer who is representing the Registrar as the Administrative Officer and the Secretary to the Faculty Academic Board Assists the Dean in the Administration of the Faculty together with his/her administrative assistants and other supportive staff of the Faculty.

All the departments in the Faculty listed earlier-on run Full –Time Programmes leading to the award of National Diploma and Higher National Diploma Certificates. Each department is headed by an Academic Officer, called Head of Department and ably assisted by the Co-ordinators at various levels of programme. The Faculty has a good working relationship with other Directorates of Academic Programmes such as: All Part-Time programme and Directorate of Entrepreneur Studies. In all, its activities especially on academic matters, the Faculty maintains good and consistent inter-Faculty relationship with other Faculties in the Institution towards implementing NBTE Regulations and Guidelines for all the programme in the Faculty.

The Primary aim and objective of the Faculty is to develop and train our students to become scientists of high repute who would be appreciated anywhere in the whole world. The noble feat of Faculty had strived hard to maintain through the formidable efforts of our ever dedicated and responsible Lecturers, Instructors and Technologists who are experts in their various academic disciplines.

Students of this Great Faculty as potential scientists are expected to be practical and research orientated and should be able to break new grounds in the world of Science and Technology. This Faculty therefore emphasizes good learning and hard-work for her students. As much as possible to internalize the ideals, culture and virtues prevalent in an academic setting and the Faculty forbids all forms of gangsterism, unlawful association, cultism, indecency, examination malpractices and misconduct.

Finally, the primary objective of this faculty is to develop students academically, morally and to earn a worthy certificate through hardwork in their academic sojourn.
